Update at 3:17 p.m.: The suspect has been identified at Leonard Christopher Young.
Update at 10:49 a.m.: Sgt. Brian Parrish, a spokesman for the Mesquite Police Department, offered further details concerning the road rage shooting that took place this morning.
According to Parrish, at 1:08 a.m. Monday police received a call from a driver heading west on Interstate 30 near Interstate 635. The caller, who tailed the vehicle south on LBJ, said he was following someone he believed to be driving drunk.
When they reached Town East Boulevard, says Parrish, the suspect vehicle came to a stop in a lane of traffic. ?The suspect exited his car with a handgun,? says Parrish, ?and fired 15 shots into the caller?s vehicle. One of the rounds struck the caller in the back of the head.?
The victim was taken to Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas in stable condition.
Meanwhile, says Parrish, the suspect, whose name has not been released, ?called the Mesquite Police Department and drove to the station to speak with officers.? He has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Original item at 8:09 a.m.: Mesquite police are questioning a suspect who they believe shot a driver during a road rage incident late Sunday night.
Police responded to the southbound frontage road of Interstate 635 and Town East Boulevard shortly after 1 a.m., said Sgt. Brian Parrish. A driver apparently shot another during a fit of road rage. Multiple shots were fired, and the victim was grazed in the head. The injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.
Investigators are questioning the suspect at the police station, Parrish said. Few details are available as the investigation is ongoing, he said. Police have not released any other information about the suspect or the victim.
