Mercer's team score of 290 on Saturday equaled or bettered the effort from 11 of the other 14 teams at the event.
After 36 rounds of play, Mercer (586) finds itself four strokes behind No. 46 Colorado State and No. 40 Oklahoma for sixth place, and nine shots clear of Kansas for ninth place.? No. 4 Georgia continues to lead the field with a tournament score of 568, while No. 35 Virginia Tech (577), No. 15 Georgia Tech (579), No. 42 North Florida (582) and Princeton (583) rounded out the top five.
Mercer's improvement on day two can be traced to a strong finish, which saw all five members of the team card a birdie on their final hole.? The Bears' score of 290 was six strokes better than Friday's round and marked the team's best 18-hole score at the Brickyard since shooting 289 in the second round of the 2011 championship.
Beale's 71 came in conjunction with Friday's even-par 72 and placed him in a tie for 10th place overall.? Reimers' 71 came on the heels of a Friday 73 and has him tied for 15th place individually.
Sophomore Trey Rule shaved two strokes off his Friday total, signing for a 73 on Saturday.? Rule's two-day mark of 148 places him in a tie for 37th place individually.? Senior Thomas Holmes and freshman Jeffrey Heinicka, Jr. each shot 75 and are tied for 48th and 63rd, respectively.
Senior Alex Street continues to lead Mercer's individual competitors after shooting 77 for the second straight day.? He is currently slotted in a tie for 69th.? Sophomore Michael Hirthler fired a 76 and is in 77th place, while John Gregory Joseph used 81 strokes and is tied for 78th.
The final round of the 2012 Brickyard Collegiate is slated to begin with a fixed start at 8:30 a.m.
