NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) ? Business leaders and owners in Brooklyn have been boasting of the burgeoning reputation for jobs and growth in the borough?s downtown, in what they have called ?Brand Brooklyn.?
Among the highlights they have emphasized is the Barclays Center ? described as the center of gravity by MaryAnne Gilmartin, who headed development for Forest City Ratner.
?It will be catalytic to Flatbush Avenue. It will be catalytic to B2B opportunities ? business to business,? Gilmartin said.
1010 WINS? Juliet Papa reports
City Small Business Services Commissioner Rob Walsh said business is booming all over the borough. He talked specifically about the miracle on Myrtle Avenue.
?You go up and down that street, you see beautiful storefronts. You see women-owned businesses,? he said.
Meanwhile, Juniors Restaurant has been at the corner of Flatbush and DeKalb avenues for more than 60 years, and while owner Alan Rosen did not want to divulge his cheesecake recipe, he was all for sharing what goes into success.
Rosen said he is a firm believer in listening to the customer and changing with the times. He said the menu speaks to that ethic.
?Juniors serves matzo ball soup, and Juniors serves barbecue ribs, and Juniors serves broiled salmon, and fried red snapper, and all this different stuff, and we have some Caribbean influences now on our menu, which we never had 50 years ago,? Rosen said.
Rosen said a new generation is also in Brooklyn ? more students, young couples, and visitors to the Barclays Center.
?You?ve got to give it to Brooklyn. The fact is we just took advantage of all of the great ingredients to make this extraordinary thing happen, and now it?s for everyone to experience,? Gilmartin said.
Walsh, Gilmartin and others were set to talk about their success, and how small business owners can learn from it, and the 1010 WINS/TD Bank 5 Boro Business Breakfast on Tuesday.
